REPETITIONS AND REVISIONS: THE REMAKE IN STAGED PHOTOGRAPHY
Resumen
PALABRAS CLAVE:
Fotografía escenificada; remake; arte contemporáneo; deconstrucción; originalidad.
ABSTRACT
Since posmodernism, photography theory has dealt with the idea that photographs can be understood as processes of cultural meaning and coding. In an artistic context interested in pastiche, quotation, deconstruction and questioning ideas of authorship and originality, the remake is consolidated as way of producing revisions of icons belonging to the collective imagination, and becomes a recurring representational strategy in current art photography. It challenges us to recognize what we see, to question how we see it, and to problematize how images give shape to our emotions and understanding of the world.
After developing the concept of remake, we will analyze its aesthetic, narrative and representational implications in staged photography, through the study of a set of recent artistic proposals that make use of a stock of preexisting images (specially from Painting), that then are reworked with new approaches that express a strong commitment to the present.

Female online participation in the brazilian presidential campaign

Abstract
The Internet encloses unambiguous possibilities of public communication and debate, by creating new spaces for political expression and participation. As a potential deliberative section, readers’ comments in newspapers’ websites constitute a domain enabling citizens to express their views on a particular issue, reacting specifically to a news piece and discussing it along with other readers as well.
From a gender perspective, studying the women’s participation in online debates becomes increasingly relevant to understanding the social aspects of Internet use. Some studies have demonstrated, however, that gender differences in online communication tend to disfavour women: women send fewer messages, receive fewer responses and often aren’t able to control the topic of discussion (Herring, 2000).
This paper intends to take the debate around the Brazilian presidential campaign as a case study of the possibility of a“female” public sphere, attempting to analyse the way by which women discuss political issues online. Additionally, given the nature and characteristics of the main presidential candidates, our aim is also to understand whether questions about gender were important to the discussion or if the dichotomy male/female was suppressed in the public debate surrounding the campaign.
In order to fulfil these purposes, our research focuses on readers’ on the Brazilian presidential campaign (SeptemberNovember 2010) in the online versions of two Portuguese newspapers, Público and Expresso.

Abstract:
Advertising is currently the main source of revenue for digital journalism. The campaign by the big media corporations to establish pay walls of various forms is not at odds with the fact that advertising resources are the main source of finance for the media in the virtual environment. Thus, it is beneficial for the media companies to know the ordinal characteristics of the inclusion of these inserts. This can lead to improvements in business strategies, including those that combine both paper and digital versions. The Research Group on Digital Journalism and Broadband has carried out an empirical study of Spanish media, based on online versions of the most read newspapers El Mundo and El País. A large presence of advertising inserts was observed and the prevailing formats were banners and box ads.
